O-ver-whelm, verb: bury or drown beneath a huge mass

Written by Kara Hendrickson

Overwhelm is a manifestation of stress.  What is the definition of stress for you?

To me, it feels like the mental and emotional strain and tension from the demands of life.  It likely comes from the frenzied pace of life in this modern world.  Most people feel this at some (or most) time in their life.  It is very common in working parents.

We all yearn for contentment

We all yearn for contentment but many of us feel unable to achieve this in modern society.

Living in a constant state of heightened stress can have dramatic consequences.  It is a fact that your thinking skills will be slower under stress.  Have you ever wondered why you can’t remember things when you are overwhelmed?

The danger is that we can live in overwhelm for years until it finally catches up.  An unexpected event can happen and trigger a strong reaction that depletes reserves and we have nothing more to draw on.

The good news is there are steps you can take to move beyond overwhelm!

  • Make a conscious decision that you simply do not want to live like this anymore
  • Identify things that are robbing your time
  • Learn to simplify
  • Learn to be in the present moment
  • Create a schedule for your household to-do’s
  • Make time for connections with your loved ones
  • Learning to say No
  • Stop procrastinating
  • Get off your phone
  • Schedule coaching with Kara to implement these steps!

When I realized my to-do list doesn’t have to be checked off every day my pace began to slow down.  Yeah, it took me 30 years, but I’m a slow learner! I jumped off the hamster wheel and looked from another viewpoint.

Now, instead of being constantly driven by my to-do list I make a tah-dah list instead! It is so gratifying to write down all the things I accomplished in a day.  And, yes, taking a catnap is an accomplishment!

My outlook totally changed from hassled to…chill! There are an incredible amount of things we do each day and don’t even slow down enough to appreciate ourselves.

As you read this, do you think “yeah right”, that’s not possible for me! If so, I thought so too!  I can work with you to make small changes to create huge changes in your life!
